Drag Artist Queen Joya

Queen Joya Commands Birmingham Pride 2025 with Fierce Pride and Purpose

On May 24, 2025, Birmingham’s streets erupted in a kaleidoscope of colour and courage for Birmingham Pride, and Worcester LGBT’s own Secretary, MD Abdul Kader—better known as the unstoppable drag icon Queen Joya—stole the show. Draped in dazzling, vibrant attire and wielding pride flags like a warrior’s banner, Queen Joya led our group through the electric parade, marching from the city centre to the pulsing heart of the LGBTQ+ village. With Worcester LGBT’s bold declaration—“We stand together. Fight for gay rights”—blazing proudly, Queen Joya embodied the fierce spirit of resistance and celebration.

As a cornerstone of Worcester LGBT, a group devoted to uplifting LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, Queen Joya brought her signature charisma to the forefront, radiating strength and solidarity. The parade, a cornerstone of Birmingham Pride 2025, was a triumphant roar of love and defiance, amplified by Queen Joya’s commanding presence. Mazedul Hasan Shakil, Worcester LGBT’s founder, said it best: “Our photographs capture not just a moment, but our mission—to empower, to advocate, and to create safe havens for our community, especially those fleeing persecution.”

Against the backdrop of electrifying performances by Clean Bandit, Cascada, and Bananarama, Queen Joya’s leadership lit up the weekend, proving that pride is both a party and a protest. Her unstoppable energy reminded us all: the fight for equality never dims, and Worcester LGBT stands tall for every voice that dares to rise.

Join us in celebrating Queen Joya’s fierce legacy and our unwavering fight for love, rights, and belonging. #BirminghamPride2025 #QueenJoya #WorcesterLGBT
